Dolly Parton is preparing to mark a major life milestone, yet the country music icon will not be present at a special Grand Ole Opry celebration planned in her honor. As fans gather to celebrate her 80th birthday, Parton is choosing to step back while still sharing her gratitude and love from afar.

Ahead of the event, the Opry shared a video message from Parton on social media. In it, the singer behind hits like “9 to 5” spoke directly to fans who plan to attend the celebration.

“I just wanted to say how much it means to me that you’re all coming together again this year to celebrate my big ol’ birthday,” Parton said. She added, “I wish I could be there in person, but I’ll be sending you all my love for sure,” while also wishing everyone “the best night ever.”

What to Expect at ‘Opry Goes Dolly’

The event, titled “Opry Goes Dolly,” takes place on January 17 and focuses on honoring Parton’s iconic 1980s era. While Parton turns 80 on January 19, the Grand Ole Opry has promised a full day of music and celebration in her spirit.

The celebration will feature live performances by Lainey Wilson, Vince Gill, Rhonda Vincent, and other artists, along with a Dolly Parton impersonator taking part in the festivities. Guests can also enjoy Dolly-themed drinks and birthday cupcakes offered during Opry House tours.

Even without Parton in attendance, organizers emphasized that the celebration will be filled with songs, fun, and fan-focused moments.

A spokesperson for Parton confirmed that there was never a plan for her to attend the annual “Opry Goes Dolly” event. The singer is not directly involved in organizing the celebration, and her absence was expected from the start.

Health Challenges and Postponed Performances

Parton’s announcement follows a series of health-related updates shared over recent months. In September, she postponed her Las Vegas concert residency, explaining to fans that she had been “dealing with some health challenges, and my doctors tell me that I must have a few procedures.”

Later, her sister raised concern by asking fans to pray for the singer, which led to increased public worry about Parton’s condition.

On October 8, Parton addressed those concerns in an Instagram video. She reassured fans that she was doing “OK,” while also acknowledging ongoing issues that required “a few treatments.” Keeping her trademark humor intact, she captioned the video with the line, “I ain’t dead yet!”

Parton also reflected on personal struggles following the death of her husband earlier in the year. She admitted that during that time, she “didn’t take care of” herself and “let a lot of things go that I should have been taking care of.”

Missed Honors Due to Health Issues

In November, Parton was inducted into the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions’ Hall of Fame. She was unable to attend the ceremony because of her health. In a separate video message, she expressed regret over missing the event, saying, “I sure wish I could be with you in person today, but you probably heard that I’ve been dealing with a few health challenges this fall.”

She continued, “My doctors told me to take it easy for just a little while. I’m truly sorry I can’t be there, but I sure wanted to take the chance to say thank you for this incredible honor.”

Even as she steps away from public appearances, Dolly Parton continues to stay connected with fans through heartfelt messages and updates.

Her absence from the Grand Ole Opry celebration reflects a focus on health and recovery, while the event itself stands as a reminder of her lasting influence on country music and popular culture.
